Anthropology Society Constitution
Article 1- Name
Section 1: The organization shall be designated Anthropology Society.
Article 2- Purpose
Section 1: This organization shall endeavor to expand knowledge of the fields of Anthropology by examining the related sub-fields of Archaeology, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, and Physical Anthropology.
Article 3- Officers
Section 1: The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Section 2: The term of office for the executive board shall be 1 year
Article 4- Membership
Section 1: Club membership is offered to any individual with an interest in Anthropology and the related sub-fields
Article 5- Membership Fees
Section 1: Club dues for each semester shall be set at $5.00 a person.
Article 6- Duty of the Officers
Section 1: Executive Offices are open to all members who have been in attendance at Southeast for two semesters and an active member of the society for at least one semester.
Section 2: The duties of the President shall be:
- conducting the meetings and maintaining order
- knowing the order of business
- keeping the meeting moving forward
- appointing members to committees
Section 3: The duties of the Vice President shall be:
- Assisting the President
- Writing letters (thank you notes, etc.)
- Acting on behalf of the President when they are absent
Section 4: The duties of the Secretary shall be:
-Taking minutes and roll call at each meeting
- Keeping and reporting on all club related correspondence
- Producing the agenda for each meeting
- Posting fliers detailing date, time and place of the meetings
Section 5: The duties of the Treasurer shall be:
- Keep track of all receipts and expenses
- Paying bills after they are approved by the club
- If the treasurer is absent, the secretary gives report
Article 7- Officer Election and Removal
Section 1: All club officers shall be elected in April of the spring semester and will serve a term from May to May of the following year.
Article 8- Committees
Section 1: There shall be established the following standing committees and any additional committees as deemed necessary by the president at the October meeting of the club.
· Fundraising Committee
· Activities Committee
Section 2: The President shall appoint a Chairman of each committee
Section 3: The Fundraising Committee shall be responsible for scheduling fundraisers throughout the year to offset the costs deemed necessary by the club.
Section 4: The Activities Committee shall be responsible for
· Gathering information about possible trips and relaying it to the club members
· Organizing extra recreational activities for club members
Article 8- Amendments
Section 1: Changes to the Constitution can be made by a consensus of the officers or a 2/3 majority vote of the voting members present at the general meetings.
Article 9- Meetings
Section 1: A general meeting consists of three or more active members, one of which must be an executive officer.
Section 2: All meetings will be held on a rotating Wednesday at 12:15.
Section 3: A voting member of Anthropology society is a member who has paid their club dues for the semester.
Article 10- Anthropology Societies Hazing Statement
The Code of Student Conduct states, “Hazing for the Purpose of pledging, initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for maintaining membership in a group, organization, or team.” Hazing is defined as any intentional, knowing or reckless act, whether on or off campus, which endangers the mental and physical health or safety of any person, regardless of consent, or which violates public law or University policy. Hazing includes, but is not limited to a) any physical brutality such as whipping, beating, striking, paddling, branding, placing of a harmful substance on the body, or similar activity; b) any physical activity such as sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement, calisthenics, or other activity that subjects a student to risk of harm, or that adversely affects the mental or physical or safety of a student; c) any activity involving the consumption of food, liquid, alcoholic beverage, drug, or substance that subjects a student to risk of harm, or that adversely affects the mental or physical or safety of a student; d) any activity that intimidates or threatens a student with ostracism, subjects the student to extreme mental stress, shame or humiliation, or adversely affects the mental health or dignity of a student, or that may reasonably be expected to cause a student to leave the organization or institution rather than submit to acts described above; and e) any activity in which a person solicits, plans, encourages, directs, aids, or attempts to aid another in hazing or intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly permits hazing to occur and /or knowingly fails to report the incident.
