The Program:  Southeast has entered into a direct exchange agreement with ITESM in Querétaro, México.  Querétaro, with its one million inhabitants, is one of Mexico's educational and commercial centers.

Academic Program & Calendar:  Students are required to have 2 years of Spanish study at Southeast before enrolling at ITESM.  A semester at ITESM offers intensive Spanish language and any other subjects students would like to study.  ITESM also offers internships and graduate study.  Fall Semester:  Late July - Early December; Spring:  January - May; Summer:  June - July.

Room & Board:  Most students will stay with Mexican families (approximately $420 per month, including all meals) within easy reach of the university.  Some dormitory rooms are also available.  Meals may be taken in the ITESM cafeteria at a reasonable cost.

Program Costs & Scholarships:  All scholarships can be applied to this direct exchange:

                        Southeast Tuition (12 credits)         $2202 (in-state)/$3852 (out-of-state)

                        Administration Fee                           $  250

Other costs:  Airfare, housing, books, and incidental costs are additional and will vary from student to student.  Departmental scholarships are available to help defray costs.

Eligibility:  Sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with a minimum overall GPA of 2.7, are eligible to apply.  Applicants must express a strong desire to learn Spanish and must be in good academic standing at the time of departure.  Spanish majors will be given preference.

CREDIT:  Up to 12-15 credit hours of academic work at ITESM may be transferred to Southeast and recorded on the Southeast transcript.  Letter grades will be recorded on the student's Southeast transcript upon return.  Students should confer with Spanish faculty before going to Mexico and should return to Southeast with appropriate materials for faculty to evaluate course content, such as syllabi, written work, exams.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:  Application materials are available from the Department of Foreign Languages and Anthropology and must be completed by October 15th for the Spring Semester and by March 15th for the Summer or Fall Semesters.  Upon receipt of the application and supporting materials, each candidate will be interviewed by the selection committee.
