Program Objectives
The Department of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a family nurse practitioner track and an advanced role specialization track. Advanced role specialization includes development of the role of adult health clinical nurse specialist/care manager or educator. The MSN program focuses on the assessment, management and delivery of health care services to individuals and families across the lifespan. Particular emphasis is directed to health care needs of underserved populations in rural areas. The program prepares graduates for the delivery of advanced nursing care and for critical investigation, integration, and synthesis of scientific knowledge in advanced nursing practice. MSN preparation provides a foundation for doctoral study. A total of 40 credit hours is required for the advanced role specialization track and 45 credit hours for the family nurse practitioner track. A post-master's family nurse practitioner certification curricular sequence is available and requires 25 credit hours.
