International Students Southeast Missouri State University welcomes international students to its campus. Approximately 3% of Southeast's enrollment are international students representing over forty countries. The University is affiliated with Host Family International and provides its international students with an opportunity to interact on a regular basis with an American family. All International students (except graduates of a U.S. institution of higher education) are required to attend an orientation session held the week prior to the start of classes.
The U.S. Immigration Service and University require that international students provide evidence of financial resources sufficient to pay the full cost of tuition, general fees, room and board, textbooks, insurance, and incidental expenses. An Official Statement of Finances accompanied by a verified bank statement is required. For 2002-2003, the estimated amount needed is $14,333 U.S. dollars per academic year (9 months) or $18,812.00 U.S. dollars per year (12 months). Estimated Expenses for International Students (Nine-Month Academic Year) Estimated Expenses for International Students (Twelve-Month Calendar Year) Transcripts Submit an official transcript(s) (Marksheets) of your baccalaureate and graduate record from all colleges attended showing the courses taken, grades earned, rank in class, grade point average, and class or division earned if applicable. If the original is in a foreign language, an English translation must be provided. The applicant will be notified when the evaluation is complete. Physical Exam Have a physical examination by a licensed physician in the home country. A physical examination form will be sent after evaluating credentials and finding them satisfactory for admission here. Health Insurance On arrival, International students are required to purchase health insurance ($720 U.S. per year). Assistantships International students without prior educational experience in the United States may not be awarded a teaching assistantship until one semester in residence has been completed. In addition, the potential graduate teaching assistant must demonstrate oral language proficiency by achieving a satisfactory score on the SPEAK test.
