We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha,
and its traditions, principles, and ideals. The crescent
is our symbol; pure, high, and ever growing, and the
cross is our guide; denoting service, sacrifice, and
even suffering and humiliation before the world,
bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal.
May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha, and passion for
its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda
Chi Alpha, and strength to fight for its teachings. May
we have pure hearts, that we may approach the ideal, of
perfect brotherly love.

Why Join Lambda Chi Alpha?
|
BROTHERHOOD |
|
|
Good friends, forever. Because of
the variety of things you do together, you get to know each other really well.
Fraternities are often accused of being full of the same kind of people. The reality is
that nowhere else can a man get to know as many different men as well as he can in his
fraternity. There are also opportunities for making friends on other campuses among the
other men with whom you share Lambda Chi Alpha - Regional Conferences, International
Conventions, or just a visit to another chapter. Lambda Chi is basically a group of good
friends, living, working, studying and having a good time together. |

JOB ADVANTAGES |
|
Recruiters know that the fraternity
experience prepares a man for success. Although fraternity alumni number less than 2% of
the population, they make up 52% of the U.S. Senate, 33% of the House of Representatives
and 75% of the top executives of the 500 largest business corporations. Alumni often help
a brother get a job. |
|
|
SOCIAL EXPERIENCES |
|
No other college lifestyle offers
the variety of social life that fraternities can. This social experience leads to the
ability to handle yourself with confidence in all kinds of social situations. |

Lambda Chi Alpha has a long
tradition and deep heritage. It is a group with which to identify and of which to be
proud. Pictured to the right is
James Wells. James was the 2006 Southeast Missouri State Man of the Year as well as
the 2007 Greek Man of the Year. Matt Knickman recently accomplished this
feat as well as the 2007 Southeast Man of the Year and the 2008 Greek Man of
the Year.

PERSONAL GROWTH |
|
|
Lambda Chi Alpha will give you the
chance to learn the value of teamwork; to learn leadership by doing; to develop a sense of
responsibility by taking it on. Fine-tune your professional skills: organization,
follow-through, speaking and making presentations in front of groups. Lambda Chi Alpha
provides the opportunity to learn from the advice and experiences of older brothers and
your alumni. It is a place to go for help with your problems. |

SCHOLASTIC ADVANTAGES |
|
Worried about your GPA? Greeks at
Southeast Missouri State on average have a higher grade point average than the whole
campus combined. Lambda Chi Alpha has standards of academic excellence and we make sure
that all brothers keep their grades up. At Lambda Chi Alpha, you get advice and tutoring
from older brothers who know the courses and the professors. |

ASSOCIATE VS PLEDGE |
|
| |
What is an "Associate
Member"? The most commonly practiced
theory of new member education is "pledge training." The labeling is remarkable
accurate and implies its inherent fallacies. Certainly by the end of the period, the
pledge is well-"trained"-- but will he made a good and resourceful active
fraternity member, brother, and gentleman?
Since 1972, we at Lambda Chi Alpha have
determined to hold "fraternity education" as our ideal. The new member is
assigned a trained, knowledgeable Big Brother who guides him through a program of
carefully designed education. Instead of being alienated, he is acculturated; rather than
a becoming a target of tawdry traditions, he is brought into noble ones.Of course, social
situations aside, an A.M. is not a brother, and "no hazing" does not mean a new
member's responsibilities are treated lightly. But by treating our little brothers with
respect from day one, we hope to bring about a better active member as well as a more
mature fraternity system. |

True Brother
Initiative |
|

The True Brother Initiative, penned by the Gamma Sigma
chapter at Southern Methodist University and unveiled at the
2007 Stead Leadership Seminar, is a reorganization of the
concept of fraternity education. The Initiative is a
conceptual framework, modeled after the
U.S. Army's
Army Values program, that organizes both associate
member and initiated brother education throughout their
undergraduate years and as alumni. True Brother is an
attempt to return to the basic values of our founders
focusing on Seven Core Values, the acronym LDRSHIP:
-
Loyalty:Bear true faith and allegiance to Lambda Chi
Alpha, your chapter, and your brothers.
-
Duty:Fulfill all your obligations from associate
member and ritual oaths.
-
Respect:Treat people as they should be treated.
- Service and
Stewardship:Put the welfare of Lambda Chi Alpha,
your chapter, and your brothers before your own. Know
that as a brother you hold something of value in trust
for others.
-
Honor:Live all our values and be an honorable man.
-
Integrity:Do what is right all of the time — walk
the walk.
- Personal
Courage:Demonstrate the courage of your convictions.
Using an eight week curriculum Associate Members focuses
on demanding, but not demeaning, development. The eight week
program is meant to ensure that all new members are ready to
experience both Pre-Initiation and the Initiation Ritual.
The True Brother journey is designed to support the
successful development of young men, understanding the
significant developmental tasks of this period of life,
maximizing the positive influence of peers and mentors, and
moving our brothers towards an increased capacity for
self-reflection and self-awareness, empathy, altruism, and
intimacy.
This program sets up goals of leadership, stewardship,
learning and service, and explicates a range of core values
associated with being a true brother, which when pursued,
leads toward a better tomorrow for Lambda Chi Alpha.
