Action Items
-
Create a College of Polytechnic Studies:
Shaw presented background discussion. The creation of a College was
approved unanimously by the department of Industrial Technology.
Holt questioned why Polytechnic Studies should be a college rather than
a school. McGowan didn't think this was an issue. Jones asked
why agriculture was left out of the title. Shaw said that "polytechnic"
is inclusive of agriculture. Cron asked how we could we justify to
faculty this increase in administrative positions and units. Holt
stated that most of these positions are funded under mission enhancement
state initiatives. Shaw moved to approve the creation of this college,
and McGowan seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
-
Move the Department of Agriculture to the
College of Polytechnic Studies: The faculty of the Department of
Agriculture has approved this proposed move. Jones made the motion
to approve the move, and Gifford seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
-
Name Change for the Department of Industrial
Technology: The Department of Industrial Technology has approved
a name change to the Department of Industrial Services Technology.
The name change better fits existing programs and distinguishes them from
emerging programs. McGowan moved to approve the name change, and
Jones seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
-
Name Change for the College of Science and
Technology: The College of Science and Technology approved a name
change to the College of Science and Mathematics. The change is appropriate
because mathematics is a common theme throughout the college; “mathematics”
does not refer specifically to the Department of Mathematics. Shaw
moved to approve the name change, and Janzow seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
-
MA Program in Education: Curtis gave
approval to discuss the tabled motion for a Master of Arts program in Education
- Interdisciplinary Studies. He distributed a memo titled Proposed
Title for New Emphasis on the M.A. in Secondary Education. He proposed
that the option be called Integrated Studies rather than Interdisciplinary
Studies. Stennis-Williams asked whether the new name had been approved
by the College of Education Council. It had not. It was agreed
to send the proposal back to the College of Education Council before taking
it up again at Academic Council.
