CURRICULAR SUBCATEGORIES
Option
An option is a formally designated area of specialization within an existing
degree program that has a distinctive curricular pattern. A preponderance
(more than half) of required courses for the option will be taken in a
core of courses common to all variations of the existing degree.
Options that were approved by the Coordinating Board for Higher Education
prior to July 1987 are not subject to this definition, except in cases
where new options are proposed for programs containing those options.
