POSITION:  The Department of Agriculture invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Agribusiness/Agriculture Economics.  Starting date is August 1, 2010.

 

DEPARTMENT:  The Department of Agriculture includes eight faculty members, three staff, and 175 majors. We offer a BS in Agribusiness (options in Animal Science, Plant and Soil, Horticulture, Agriculture Industry) and programs in pre-Vocational Agricultural Education and pre-Veterinary Medicine. The department operates a large climate-controlled horticulture greenhouse, a sustainable garden facility, the David M. Barton Agriculture Research Center specializing in beef and row-crops, and the Missouri Rice Research Farm. The department is well supported by the diverse agricultural and horticultural industries of southeast Missouri.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Teach undergraduate courses in agribusiness and allied fields. Candidates must have strong theoretical and practical experience in agribusiness. The successful candidate will participate in curriculum development in the department and will provide new expertise to lead the program in new directions. Additional responsibilities include: advising students, serving on committees, professional development and service to area agribusinesses. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or related discipline. Candidates with significant progress toward completion of their Ph.D. degree will be considered for an instructor position and will assume a tenure-track appointment upon completion of their Ph.D. degree. Candidates must have strong English communication skills, have appropriate academic background to teach, and develop curriculum and new programs. The candidate must show evidence of the ability to execute other duties as described in the position description. The candidate must also demonstrate commitment to the teacher/scholar model, the ability to write grants and scholarly publications, potential for professional advancement in the discipline, and commitment to public/university service. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to work with multicultural populations and have awareness on issues affecting women and minorities.
