DIRECTOR OF KENT LIBRARY

 

 

Applications are invited for the position of Director of Kent Library at Southeast Missouri State University. This is a 12 month, tenured position reporting to the Dean of Academic Information Services.

 

Kent Library combines traditional library services with a twenty-first century information commons concept.  The Director will play a major leadership role in expanding the information commons to the three regional campuses. Kent Library employs over thirty-five faculty and staff, and has an operating budget in excess of two million dollars.  The collection includes approximately 430,000 bound volumes, 2,000 bound periodicals, and online access to over 40,000 journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Kent Library is a member of the MOBIUS consortium, comprised of over 60 Missouri libraries.

 

Responsibilities:

·                     Plan, implement, and administer all aspects of library services to meet the scholarly and general information needs of the University and its service region.

·                     Oversee technology and networking services for the Library.

·                     Coordinate development and management of library collections.

·                     Coordinate budgets and strategic planning.

 

Required Qualifications: 

·                     A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program.

·                     A minimum of 5 years experience in a university library with progressively responsible professional and administrative experience. 

·                     Experience with managerial duties, i.e. planning, budgeting, managing personnel, and facilities management.

·                     Experience coordinating collection development.

·                     Experience with the integration of information technologies in support of the Library’s missions.

·                     Demonstrated evidence of effective written and oral communication skills.

·                     Ability to work with multiple constituencies, both internal and external to the University, e.g. vendors, library liaisons, library consortia, community groups.

·                     Ability to articulate knowledge of issues confronting academic libraries.

·                     Strong interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills.

·                     Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
