POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

POSITION:                                          Chairperson, Department of Art, Associate or Full Professor w/tenure.

                                                                     

DATE:                                                    Screening begins November 15, 2009, and continues until the position is filled.  Start date August 1, 2010.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                        The Chairperson teaches the equivalent of two courses per semester in the fall and spring, with summer teaching optional.  Individuals with proficiency in Fiber Art, 3-Dimensional Media or Graphic Design are especially encouraged to apply. The Chairperson supports and evaluates the faculty, sets the class schedules, oversees the budget and general department operations and equipment.  Coordinators of the Art Gallery, the Art Academy and Foundations Program report to the Chairperson. The successful applicant will carry out chairperson responsibilities for a twelve-month contract. The individual will continue to oversee application for NASAD accreditation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                           Academic experience commensurate with rank. Management experience with tenure and rank at the level of Associate or Full Professor is required.  Sixty-hour MFA in studio art or Ph.D in Art Education, and professional record in specialization required along with a successful record of university teaching.  The successful applicant will exhibit strong leadership and interpersonal skills, possess the capacity to advocate for the Department, and be able to work well with communities of the department, campus and region. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to the teacher-scholar model and public and University service and should have a demonstrated commitment to working with multicultural populations and awareness of issues affecting women and minorities. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required.

 

SALARY:                                              Commensurate with professional experience and qualifications.

THE DEPARTMENT:                          The Department of Art has approximately 230 majors and a faculty of twelve.  In addition to BA and BFA degrees in Art, the Department offers a BS in Art Education. The Department is actively involved in the University’s interdisciplinary general education program (University Studies). Located on the Mississippi River, the Department of Art is part of the new Earl & Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, which opened in fall 2007.
