POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

POSITION:                                Instructor Art Foundation, full time, continuing non-tenure track.

                                                    

DATE:                                        Position available August 2008.  Screening begins April 14, 2008, and continues until the position is filled.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:               Teach studio Foundations classes in Drawing, 2-Design, Color, 3-D Design, Art Appreciation and/or Freshman Experiences courses as needed within comprehensive BFA, BA & BS in Art degree programs. Participate in Department, College and University committee work and service, and work for the good of the entire Department, College & University.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                   MFA, professionally active artist; successful experience teaching; university-level in Foundations & Art Appreciation area beyond graduate school. Solid skills in and successful teaching of Drawing and Color Theory are essential. The ability to use some digital applications in teaching design is desired.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.  Demonstrated commitment to working with multicultural populations and awareness of issues affecting women and minorities is required.  Demonstrated commitment to public and university service is required.  Demonstrated commitment to the teacher/scholar model is required.

 

SALARY:                                    Commensurate with professional experience and qualifications.  Excellent fringe benefits.

THE DEPARTMENT:  The Department of Art has approximately 210 majors and a faculty of13.  In addition to BA and BFA degrees in Art, the department offers a BS in art education. The department is actively involved in the university’s interdisciplinary general education program (University Studies).

 

The Department of Art is part of the new Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, with new facilities along the Mississippi River that opened in fall 2007. Cape Girardeau is a river community of approximately 45,000, two hours south of Saint Louis and three hours north of Memphis.  Cape serves as the major retail, wholesale, financial, medical, transportation, and educational center for southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.  The Cape Girardeau metropolitan area was recently listed among the top 20 small cities in America by the publication “Rating Guide to Life in America’s Small Cities.”
