POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION:                  Assistant Professor of Spanish.  A full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Foreign Languages & Anthropology.  Review of applicants will begin November 15, 2009, and continue until the position is filled.  Rank:  Assistant Professor.

 

DATE:                        Position available August 2010.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:      Teach undergraduate courses in Spanish language, culture, and literature and in foreign language pedagogy and coordinate foreign language education program.  Teaching load is twelve hours (4 courses) per semester.  Conduct research and publish in area(s) of expertise.  Advise undergraduate students; participate in committee work, public service and professional organizations.  Willingness to coordinate and participate in department study abroad and exchange programs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:       Earned Ph.D. in Spanish by May 15, 2010.  Some background in pedagogy, native or near-native fluency, teaching experience, demonstrated teaching excellence, and evidence of scholarly potential required.  Demonstrable commitment to the teacher/scholar model, to public and University service, to a culturally diverse learning environment, to working with multicultural populations, and an awareness of issues affecting women and minorities.  Study and/or travel in Spanish-speaking countries.

 

SALARY:                       Commensurate with professional experience and qualifications.  In addition, the University provides an excellent benefits package.

THE DEPARTMENT:    The department includes eleven full-time faculty members and offers the B.A., B.S., and the B.S. Ed. in secondary education to about 210 majors.
