Department of Communication
POSITION: Assistant Professor of Journalism; a tenure-track
position in the Department of Communication, an ACEJMC-accredited program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Print journalism
option coordinator.
·
Teach
undergraduate courses in print journalism and related new technologies.
·
Advise mass
communication majors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in print
journalism or mass communication required for tenure track. MA or ABD will be considered, but appointment
will be at Instructor level until doctorate is completed. The successful candidate will teach
undergraduate courses in print journalism and related new technologies, in
addition to one or more of the following areas:
writing for the mass media, mass media in society, mass communication
theory and research, and specialized reporting (such as science and technology,
health sciences, or rural journalism).
Candidates should have a commitment to and evidence of quality teaching
in print journalism courses at the college level. Candidates should have a record of sustained
professional accomplishment, including demonstrated print journalism experience
and promise as a journalism scholar. The
successful candidate must have demonstrated commitment to working with
multicultural populations and awareness of issues affecting women and
minorities.

THE DEPARTMENT: The department
includes 18 full-time faculty members who serve approximately 600 undergraduate
majors. In addition to a B.S. in Mass
Communication with options in Advertising, Public Relations, Radio Production,
and TV and Film Production, and a B.A. in Journalism (all accredited by
ACEJMC), the department offers a B.A. degree in Communication Studies and a
B.S. degree in Corporate Communication.
