Overview:
The FFR Implementation Grant program will provide funds to support projects
of up to three-year duration, in which evidence of success from previous
research (or FFR Demonstration Grants) indicates that project may be adaptable
to a reasonably-sized audience at Southeast. The proposals
will be funded for up to $45,000. The grants are not renewable.
Goal 1:
The primary goal of the FFR Implementation Grant program is to provide
long-term support to projects that are based on preliminary evidence that
the project will succeed. This evidence may come from the following
sources.
-
A previously successful FFR Demonstration
Grant.
-
Published activities that have been demonstrated
to have a positive impact on teaching and learning.
-
Activities from other institutions that have
been demonstrated to have a positive impact on teaching and learning.
Regardless of the source of evidence of previous
success, the evidence must be clearly articulated in the narrative of the
proposal.
Goal 2:
It is a goal of the FFR Implementation Grant program that proposals represent
an expansion in scope from what would normally be considered pilot projects
(such as a Demonstration Grant). That expansion may take the
form of applying the project to a broader audience or broadening the goals
of the original project.
Goal 3: It
is a goal of the FFR Implementation Grant program to bring about institutionalization
of very successful activities. To this end, a proposer’s sponsoring
units within the University must agree to provide some budgetary support
for the project in its final two years. In addition, the proposer
must present a plan for continuation of the project once FFR funding has
ended.
Goal 4: Because
this is a Funding For Results program, it is imperative that evaluative
measures of the success of funded grants be administered. The
level of assessment of these grants must be such that the effects of their
funding on teaching and learning can be clearly demonstrated.
Thus, these proposals may be considered investigative in nature and a full
report of data generated by funded proposers must be made to FFR.
Applying for an FRR Implementation

| Narrative: |
|
The narrative for the FFR Implementation
Grant Proposals must address the following issues: |
|
|
|
|
|
Identification of the teaching/learning
problem that will be affected by the funding of this proposal. |
|
|
|
|
|
A clear statement of the solution for
that problem. |
|
|
|
|
|
Evidence that the plan proposed is likely
to succeed. This may take the form of preliminary data, published
research, conference proceedings, or successful programs from other universities
(with supporting data). |
|

solution at Southeast. This should include a timeline, in addition
to normal details. |

Allowable budget items.
-
Consumable supplies
-
Student labor
-
Graduate Assistant (be sure to include
the cost of fee waivers, etc)
-
Equipment related to the project
-
Mileage and travel directly related to delivering
the project to its audience
-
Participant Stipends
-
Release time (The amount of release
time is limited and must be very well justified-department or unit support
for this is encouraged)
Budget items not allowed.
-
Faculty/Staff salaries
-
Remodeling/Capital expenditures/space adjustments
A note on equipment.
This is not an equipment granting program.
Reasonable equipment items, necessary to carry out the proposal, can be
included. However, it is unlikely that a proposal solely for
equipment, with the justification that modern equipment makes for better
pedagogy, will be funded.
Proposal Length and Organization:
Proposal narratives may be up to 6 pages, single-spaced, 11 point font
or larger. A Literature-Cited Section may be included, but be no
more than 2 pages. (Cite all literature parenthetically in the text
of the narrative). Arrange as follows: Title page, Narrative,
Literature-Cited, Budget Form, Budget Justification (one page).
No appendices are allowed.
Proposal Evaluation:
Proposals will be evaluated by the FFR team according to the following
criteria. Each criterion carries equal weight.
-
The problem and the solution
-
The significance of the teaching/learning
problem.
-
The likelihood that the proposed plan will
have a positive impact on the identified problem.
-
The proposed implementation of the solution
-
The plan is workable
-
The target audience is appropriate
-
The plan can be sustained beyond FFR funding
-
The budget is reasonable and justified.
-
If funded, the proposal’s impact on teaching
and learning can be evaluated.
-
A clear plan to evaluate the success of the
program is presented.
-
The evaluation plan is as free as possible
of interfering variables.
Proposal Scoring:
The following scoring system will be used for evaluation of each proposal.
-
Each criterion will be rated on a scale of
1 to 5, with 5 being highest. Scores for each criterion will
be accumulated and averaged. The sum of these averages will produce a final
score.
-
The three highest-scoring proposals will be
funded.
-
No proposal with an average final score below
11 will be funded.
-
No proposal with an average score below 3
for any individual criterion will be funded.
Reporting Requirements:
Yearly progress reports are required in addition to a final report. |
