A.A. DEGREE TO B.S.E. DEGREE
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION - PROJECT ACCESS

Purpose:  The Project Access curriculum is designed for persons who plan to complete an Associate of Arts Degree at Jefferson College and then transfer to Southeast Missouri State University's Project Access program on the Jefferson College campus.  Project Access brings all of the junior year to Jefferson College, and requires 14 hours of resident work on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University (usually one semester of the senior year).  The Associate of Arts Degree fulfills the lower division University Studies requirement.  Students who complete this degree will be certificated to teach birth – grade 3 in Missouri's public schools.

Courses listed in Italics are Southeast classes taught at Jefferson College or in the Jefferson County Area.  The semester listed in boldface is the Southeast semester on the campus in Cape Girardeau, during which at least 14 hours must be completed.

# An elementary teaching certification (1-6) can be easily obtained with the degree.  The selection of those courses marked with an # (MA 318, UI 308 and an economics course) results in the completion of the second certificate.  While some UI 3xx course must be selected during the fall semester, MA 318, UI 308, and the economics course are not needed for the early childhood degree,  They give the student a second certificate in elementary education--and are most strongly recommended.
