Purpose: Majors in French, German, and Spanish prepare students for graduate school or the job market with highly valued skills: international communication skills, critical thinking skills, and knowledge of other cultures. The B.A. in foreign languages prepares students for careers in travel and tourism, government agencies, and international organizations or companies. In addition, the degree prepares students for further specialized training in fields such as translation, interpretation, and foreign service.
The B.A. in French, German or Spanish requires the completion of 36 credit hours of foreign languages courses and 3 hours of Civilization/Culture. A minor, consisting of 15 to 21 credit hours, is required on the B.A. degree. In addition, students must complete entrance and exit requirements for the major in the Department (for details please contact the Department of Foreign Languages).
The Department encourages all foreign language majors to consider study abroad and internship opportunities.
Courses should be selected so that they meet the degree requirements for a minimum of 30 hours of senior college (300-500 level) courses.
