SOCIAL STUDIES
Purpose: This curriculum is designed for persons who plan to complete an Associate of Arts Degree at Rend Lake College and then transfer to Southeast Missouri State University to complete a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in Social Studies. The Associate of Arts Degree fulfills the lower division University Studies requirement. The primary pupose of this degree is to prepare students to teach history, geography and the social sciences at the secondary level. This degree also prepares students for pursuit of advanced degrees and for a variety of positions in business and education that require strong organizational skills, research skills and the ability to work well with people.
Students planning to obtain middle school certification should complete a lab with both the biology and physical science courses.
Students must have a “C” or better in courses in bold print.
Students must be admitted to Teacher Education prior to entry into Block II of the junior year.
