A.A. DEGREE TO B.S. DEGREE
BIOLOGY
Purpose: This curriculum is designed for persons who plan to complete an Associate of Science Degree at Shawnee Community College and then transfer to Southeast Missouri State University to complete a Bachelor of Science in Biology Degree. There is a single major, with three different areas of specialization. These areas include: organismal, ecological, and evolutionary (OEE); microbiology, cellular, and molecular (MCM); and biomedical sciences (BMS). The curriculum shown here is for the OEE area of interest. A minor is required on the degree program and this curriculum shows a minor in chemistry. Chemistry was selected because all of the areas of specialization require coursework in chemistry (1-4 courses). The degree also requires at least five credits in mathematics (which includes College Algebra). If coursework in physics is required for your area of interest or future educational training, then you should take trigonometry. If it does not, then a statistics course would be recommended. Modifications may need to occur if you are contemplating a different area of interest or if you are considering entering graduate or professional school after graduation from Southeast Missouri State University.
