A.S. DEGREE TO B.S. DEGREE
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

Purpose: This curriculum is designed for persons who plan to complete an Associate of Science Degree at Southwestern Illinois College and then transfer to Southeast Missouri State University to complete a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology Degree. The Associate of Science Degree fulfills the lower division University Studies requirement.  This program of study prepares students to be eligible for both acceptance to an accredited hospital based clinical year program and national certification as a medical technologist.  Employment for medical technologists is typically found in hospitals, medical clinics, industry, and some medical research laboratories.  One may work as a medical technologist, laboratory technician, research assistant, or be involved in clinical/medical product sales, marketing, or service.

One must apply for acceptance into and successfully complete a 12-month NAACLS accredited Clinical Year Program for this degree program.

A minimum of 30 hours of senior college (300-500 level) courses are required for graduation.
