SUBJECT: Student Government Parliamentarian
BY-LAW BODY
I. Qualifications:
A. Be a student in good standing as defined in the by-laws.
B. Cannot hold a Senate, Executive, or Judicial Board position once installed as Parliamentarian.
C. Must be appointed by the President of the Senate.
D. The Parliamentarian should be versed in Robert's Rules of Order, and have a working knowledge of general legislative procedures.
II. Parliamentarian duties and responsibilities shall be limited to the following:
A. The Parliamentarian shall have no voice in the meeting.
B. The Parliamentarian shall be assigned a seat next to the chair, so as to be convenient for consultation in a low voice, but the chair should try to avoid checking with the Parliamentarian too frequently or too obviously.
C. During a meeting, the work of the Parliamentarian should be limited to giving advice to the chair, and, when requested, to any other member.
D. The Parliamentarian shall call the attention of the chair to any errors in parliamentary procedure.
E. The Parliamentarian shall hold office for one year or until resignation or conviction of impeachment charges and shall be appointed by the President of the Senate at the beginning of his/her term.
F. The Parliamentarian must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of Senate.
