Vending system and ID Card Services FAQ page
Please do not punch holes in, or use your ID for an ice scraper, door opener, or for any use other than their intended functions. Doing so can damage the magnetic stripe. Vending value on cards cannot be refunded unless the amount can be verified.
How do I use the system?
Insert either a University
ID or Vending Card into an add value teller machine. The teller will show you the current
value on the card. Put a bill (one, five, ten, or twenty) in the bill acceptor. The teller
will add the money to existing value and show you the new total. Then push the card return
button.
Once you have added value
to the card you simply insert the card into any of the vending machines which have a card
reader and make your selection. The machine will subtract the required value from the card
and return it.

What should I do if my card shows an error?
Look at the value on the
card (if it shows) then bring the card to the ID Card Services office located in
the University Center third floor. The ID Card office hours are Monday through Friday from
8:00a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The error will
be corrected and you may begin using the system again immediately.
Who should I contact if a vending machine does not work
properly?
To report the malfunction of
a vending machine, contact the Office of Residence Life by phone at (573)651-2274 or contact
Bruce Hanebrink. Please, have the vending
machine number and its location.
What can I use my ID to purchase?
You can use the Vending
Stripe to buy soft drinks, snacks, and coffee as well as photocopies, and laundry services.
Is there an alternative to using my ID card for vending?
You can purchase
an inexpensive replacement vending card that functions only in the vending system
if you do not wish to use your ID in the vending machines. They are
available from card dispensing tellers in Kent Library and at Towers Complex.
Why are there two magnetic stripes on my ID?
The Vending
Services use
one stripe for cashless transactions in the various machines. The other stripe is used by
the food service provider for storing meal plan information. The two stripes are not
interchangeable, i.e., money paid to the food service company is not accessible in the
vending machines.
Where do I go with questions about Meal Plans
or Points?
Questions regarding Meal Plans or Points can be directed to Chartwells Dining
Services, located on the 2nd floor of the University Center. They may also
be reached at (573) 651-2569.
What if I find my old card
after having a new one made? Can I use it?
No.
In order to insure the security of the meal and debit plans as well as the
residence halls, only the most recent card issued is valid. Any previous cards
are automatically invalidated on the system. If you have an old card, it should
be cut up and thrown away. Changes in
Kent Library computer system prohibit the reactivation of any previous card!
I hate my picture, can
I have another one made?
Retakes,
once the card is printed, are not allowed unless the picture is unusable due to
closed eyes or other similar problems. If you really must have another ID
picture made, a replacement can be obtained through the lost ID process, with
it's normal replacement fee.
How do I take care of my ID
Card?
Treat
your card as you would cash or any other valuable possession. Protect the
magnetic stripes, they can be erased by some devices such as inventory control
pads (found at many cash registers) or other strong magnetic devices. Do not
iron or otherwise expose the card to excessive heat. Do not punch holes in the
card for use with key chains or necklaces. We also ask that you do not use any
tape or stickers on the card; the tape can damage the card readers around
campus.
